I’ve seen the sky from sea level
and from 35,000 feet up;
But none can ever compare
to the sky that I witnessed tonight.
Surrounded by silence of night,
illumed by the month’s full moon,
I stared up in child-like wonder
at a single sheet of dark blue.
In crayons, it’s called midnight blue,
one of 19 shades they’ve devised,
an attempt to capture the essence
of nature’s most wonderful hue.
I love this dark shade of blue, but
I never could have imagined
that the color of childhood scribbles
could enlighten both me and the sky.
