Vacant lots
make good car lots, it seems.

Polished vehicles with
signs posted in sparkling windows

attract the curious.
Circling round the car, jotting down numbers,

potential owners later
return to close the deal, no salesman needed.

It’s curious, however, that
our local car lot is a single, monocromatic display.

Each day, a different
shiny red car appears; yet each day,
the sticker price is the same as yesterday’s.

Some night I hope
to see the nocturnal magician
who twists and reconfigures the red beauties.

I wonder if it’s a kit from
Mattel or Hasbro, like the children’s Transformer toys,
or if it’s available from Detroit, or Japan?
