Below the decaying foliage

lies a home for indigineous

insects, their grand heritage

channeled through tunnels of

earth. Through my hands, I

plant seeds, which bring

heritage

to new

heights.

Waiting at School

16 Wednesday Nov 2016

Hey, school mom
in the beat up truck
jukin’ to the radio,
music turned up.

Have you noticed as we wait
for the school bell’s dong,
I sit quiet in my car

while you burst in song,
a-rockin and a-boppin
to steady the beat.

Your small little baby
buckled in her seat;
it must be louder
than a chicken’s squawk.
If she could just move
and were able to talk,

she’d let you know that
we’re drowning in sound,
and ask you to turn the
big speakers way down.

Fall Winds

11 Friday Nov 2016

I’ve got the wind by the tail,
trailing behind as if we’re a kite
sailing with airstreams
as we float among the clouds.

Nipping at treetops,
we dip like a dancer,
then rise to reach the sky,
whispering farewell as we
take leave for the season.

If Only…

If…
I could mend a fence,
I’d scrap the barbed wire
and build a gate where
friends could pass through.

If…
I could build a bridge,
it would cross barriers
grown up around me,
connect neighborhoods.

If…
I could forge steel,
I’d build a shield
that would deflect evil
and reflect peace.

If only…

Continuum of True Love

Neither space nor time changes it;
No amount of pressure can move it;
Nothing can alter its course
Once it’s set in motion.

A lifetime is not long enough
For our lives to co-exist;
Let our continuum span realms,
Caught in a fourth dimension.

Gently falling from clouds or
streaming down the river,
water is a welcome addition to nature;

Yet just as natural are the wet
tears trickling down my face
as I say my goodbye to you.

Cars, trains and planes
travel ‘cross my floor,
sharing imaginary roads
with thunderously loud roars.

Vroom! Zoom! Boom!
“Did you see that?” he exclaims,
“It’s your turn now, Grandma,
See if you can do the same.”

So I take these creaky knees
and inflexible old back,
crawl ’round on all fours–
I can do it, as matter of fact!
and give the cars a spin.

The pleasure that I find
is neither playing nor racing cars,
but in the twinkle of his eyes
and the love within his heart.

Blue mountain peaks
silhouette the fraying sky,
where bits of white and silver
lazily flitter down
a light dusting, the
first kiss of snow
on this blushing fall’s
picturesque valley floor.

Surround Sound

08 Friday Nov 2013

I sit idly against the tree trunk, enjoying
nature as she surrounds me
with her ever changing beauty.
Her motherly attention is evident as I
nestle against the old cottonwood tree, its
trunk curved to fit my back, its limbs extended
as if arms meant to encircle me in shade and comfort.

From above, I hear
A sweet melody fill the air as
Two robins tweet their love for each other.
Engrossed in one another, they miss the
Rotating movement of the owl, protecting
Her young, emitting only an occasional hoot.

Beside me, I hear
Lizards slither, their shuffle not quite muffled,
Crickets chirp, forewarning of their movement, and
Grasshoppers springing with near silence.
Obviously wanting to know what’s going on,
A skittish rabbit emerges from the rustling underbrush,
Pausing briefly for my viewing pleasure.

It’s as if Mother Nature is performing for me in
full panoramic splendor with surround sound,
ever so clear.
