Gently falling from clouds or
streaming down the river,
water is a welcome addition to nature;

Yet just as natural are the wet
tears trickling down my face
as I say my goodbye to you.

A solid
foundation
rises
to the
challenges
placed upon it.

Neither large
nor small
burdens
shake or upset
the balance.

“Many paths lead from the foot of the mountain, but at the peak we all gaze at the single bright moon.”

Ikkyū (一休宗純 Ikkyū Sōjun?, 1394–1481) (self-named: “Crazy Cloud”) was an eccentric, iconoclastic Japanese Zen Buddhist monk and poet. He had a great impact on the infusion of Japanese art and literature with Zen attitudes and ideals. Wikipedia via Kodansha Encyclopedia of Japan, entry “Ikkyū” by James H. Sanford

Curtains of icicles
laced with curdles of snow
descend from rocky ledges,
creating secluded caves
for cold weather lovers.

Breitachklamm is a deep rocky gorge in Bavaria, formation which started approximately 10,000 years ago with stone slowly eroding as the Breitach glacier melted.

Bears do it,
Snakes do it,
So why, oh why,
Can’t I do it!

I stand strong,
a modern-day warrior
posed for peace,
for the spirit dwells within me.

Focused between burled brown
and captivating green,
natural highlights enhance
the color palette of the forest
while shadowy figures playfully
dance to muffled breezes.

The ancient tree
stands erect,
rooted at the ground;
dry, withered arms
in Upward Salute;
a delicate balance
in space and time:
Mother Earth, Father Sky;
Past, Present;
Life, Death.

Beauty grows by depth,
pillars of strength layering
step by gradual step.

An essence of spirit
beautifies the surface,
visible to all who seek.

Truly monumental work.

Blue mountain peaks
silhouette the fraying sky,
where bits of white and silver
lazily flitter down
a light dusting, the
first kiss of snow
on this blushing fall’s
picturesque valley floor.

Patched in quilted splendor,
shades of green pine
needle through
golden strings of aspen
as they thread their way
up the mountain.

It has rained on and off all day today. I’m looking for my pot of gold!

Rainbows
Spectrum of happiness,
Reflection of light,
Vision of hopefulness,
Daydreamer’s delight.
