Opening Doors

Doors in stone buildings down old street

Knock on any door in the World,
and you may find yourself in

The Atacama Desert of Chile
where ne’er a teardrop falls,

Or at Victoria Falls in Africa,
where cascades of tears gush.

You may meet a Tasmanian devil
dervishly clearing out the past

Or a three-toed sloth,
waiting for future to come.

Knock and enter many doors;
experience the worlds beyond,

For only then can you design
the world behind your door.

There once was a widow from here
Who wanted to wander to there
But, oh the gas price
Rose not twice, ’twas trice!
So she settled for crackers and beer.

*********

There once was a plump, purplish plum
Who spent languorous days in the sun,
He shriveled and dried
Then rose up with pride,
And said, “Now I’m a prune, I must run.”

********

Ah, the limerick challenge. Always such fun. With journey as a topic and alliteration as a device, I traveled in a couple of different ways.

Traveling Light

Traveling through life with a chronic illness brings challenges unknown to the chronically healthy. Those born with conditions accepted their limitations long before the newly chronically ill. I have yet to find my equilibrium, but I vow to continue to try.

I travel daily with Fibromyalgia,
My symptoms bag not always full,
But when I exceed my mileage,
Overloaded bags tip the scale.

I’m rescheduling my life’s journey
To include the trails I like best,
And when faced with a difficult path,
I’ll slow, take a day at a time.

Choices are not easy to make,
Disappointment occasionally comes,
But I’d rather be traveling light
Than heavy-laden, unable to go.
