Flowing summer streams,
aquatic conversations,
visually sound.

*****

Spring’s frozen waters
melt like Frosty the Snowman
to create new streams.

*****

Summer sprinklers spurt
iridescent teardrops for
children to play in.

*****

Sixty percent water,
yet still I thirst; hydrate me
so I’ll wrinkle less.

*****

Natural orbits–
rivers, rain, return to earth–
water recycling.

*****

Drop by drop, dribbling,
gushing forth. Water quenches
all sizes of thirst.

*****

Mesmerizing plane,
a body of lake water,
aqueous gold of life.

2/15/15

Presented with a challenge to write a water haiku, I overflowed; I couldn’t stop with one. These are not designed to flow from one to another but to be enjoyed individually.

Gently falling from clouds or
streaming down the river,
water is a welcome addition to nature;

Yet just as natural are the wet
tears trickling down my face
as I say my goodbye to you.

Reading Between the Strokes

Monet’s quick strokes of intense color
bring impressions of 3-D to his
two-dimensional oil paintings, even without
fiiltered glasses. It’s as if stems
catch a breeze…perhaps a wind,
a dog chase, or even a nibbling bunny.
Or as if water gently flows ’round corners
with reflected shadows dancing along.

Reading between the strokes,
I continue to be moved by Monet.

The brook, its babble
silenced by Winter’s freeze,
mirrors an inner calm
to all who stop to reflect.

Glazed by Winter’s chill,
The stream hibernates
‘Neath layers of cold ice,
Awaiting Spring’s return.

Smooth flowing strokes swirl
across watercolor paper,
revealing life’s complexion
with layers of softened hues.

Painting by Claude Monet (14 November 1840 – 5 December 1926), a founder of French impressionist painting
.
